Jags CB Mathis out for season

12/03/2008 - Jacksonville, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Rashean Mathis will miss the rest of the season after injuring his knee.

Mathis, who leads the team with four interceptions, sprained his medial collateral ligament in the Jags' Monday night matchup at Houston. Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said Wednesday it will not require surgery.

A second-round pick in 2003 and a Pro Bowl selection in 2006, Mathis has 40 tackles and one sack this season. In 90 career games with Jacksonville, he has accumulated 375 tackles, one sack, three forced fumbles and 25 interceptions.

Out west, 22nd-ranked Arizona State will be battling for their first victory over 21st-ranked California since 2000. Although the Golden Bears are listed as 7.5-point favorites, the Sun Devils are 3-0, lead the nation in sacks with 18 and possess the Pac-10's leading passer in sophomore quarterback Rudy Carpenter.
